摘要：From ＂Moral Rationality＂ to ＂Rational Morality＂： Evolution of Chinese  Thoughts on Moral Education from Pre-Qin Period to Mohism

Abstract：The dialectical relationship between Morality and Rationality has long been debated and discussed by Chinese philosophers throughout history. Should we cultivate moral rationality or rational morality among students？ To this question, pre-Qin Confucianism and Mohism provided quite different answers. According to the Mohism, rationality would naturally lead to morality, and rationality is a prerequisite for morality, whereas pre-Qin Confucianism advocated the superiority of moral over logical thinking. On the other hand, unlike those pre-Qin Confucianists who believed in the inherent goodness of human nature, Mohists shared Socrates＇ viewpoint that vir- tue is knowledge, and regarded rationality as the root of human goodness. Based on such a scientific epistemology, Mohism came to the conclusion that morality can be taught and moral education is necessary and important as well.
