摘要：From Epistemology to Axiology： A New Perspective on Building Higher Education Research as an Academic Discipline
Promoting the status of higher education research （HER） as an academic discipline is one of the most important tasks facing higher education researchers. In China, researchers usually think about HER from the perspective of epistemology, due to the influence from modern philosophies and classical criteria for the establishment of an academic discipline. However, such an epistemological per- spective tends to emphasize the connotation of ＂inferior＂ associated with HER as a newly-established discipline. Therefore, it is neces- sary to reconsider HER from a new and axiological perspective. To be specific, we needs to pay more attention to the practical values, integrative function and humanistic significance of HER so as to make it a discipline ＂above＂, ＂between＂ and ＂beyond＂ all other dis- ciplines. To fulfill its epistemological mission, HER needs to be value-oriented rather than value-free, and adopt a dialogistic interdis- ciplinary methodology. Only by shifting from an epistemological to axiological perspective would it be possible to enhance the status of HER as an academic discipline.
