摘要:Dual Gender Disparities in Higher Education Research as a Discipline and a Profession: Towards a Theoretical Analysis
Cheng Jinkuan Yan Tiantian
Abstract:Gender Theory emphasizes the socially constructed nature of masculinity, femininity and "proper" male-female relations. According to Gender Theory, colleges and universities, where male majors are mostly chosen by boys and female majors by girls, are places implicitly designated to pass on "socially correct" concepts about gender from one generation to the next. Labor market, on the other hand, is another important institution that reinforces and reproduces social construction of gender difference, as well as gender gap in career choice and potential income. Such gender disparities in academic fields and labor market also plague Higher Education Research (HER) both as an academic discipline and a specialty profession.
